supplement recommendations
Patient education plays a big role in naturopathic care and under that umbrella, includes the discussions around which supplements can be helpful.
First and foremost, if you are on prescription medications – these medications need to work to the best of their ability. Naturopathic Doctors are trained to check interactions of supplements with medications to ensure that medication efficacy is maintained.
Dr. Mawji creates supplement plans on an individual basis. There may be contraindications in your health that may make some supplements better suited to you than others.
Self-prescribing supplements is not recommended.
Not all supplements are created equally. Therapeutic doses, fillers/preservatives, dyes, quality of extraction methods, delivery method & so much more – all of these are factors in creating a supplement plan individualized to you. At the end of the day, supplements really should be just that – supplements to the foundations of health – exercise, nutrition, sleep.
Dr. Mawji uses clinical research in devising plans for her patients. The goal is not to be taking supplements long-term. Also, you may not need to be on supplements. Every patient is an individual with different recommendations.
