Summer is here! For most people, the summer brings a different outlook on life – seasonal fruits (yummy!), lots of sunshine, more fun activities outdoors with friends and family, picnics on the beach, festivals & events, and SO MUCH MORE. Although living in a place like Calgary may teach us to enjoy the winter months, many of us look forward to the summer months for a variety of reasons. Our summer months typically come with more sunshine and smiles!

Here are some summer wellness tips to that may help you enjoy the summer:
Hydration – Taking the time to hydrate yourself, with added electrolytes if necessary (speak with your ND), is really important to ensure you can tolerate the heat and try to be proactive about dehydration. Carrying a water bottle with you at all times is one way to ensure adequate water intake! You could also freeze your water bottle overnight in a freeze-resistant non-plastic bottle, so you have a longer supply of cool water for the day.
Sunscreen – Whether you are outdoors or not - sunscreen is important. Sun rays travel through curtains, blinds, glass and more. Protect your skin.
Foods High in Antioxidants & Nutrients – The summer is a great season to add delicious fruits & vegetables to our diets by making a smoothie, homemade popsicles or just plain eating them. High-antioxidant foods include: cherries, cranberries, blueberries, DARK unsweetened chocolate, goji berries, greens, mangoes, watermelon and the list goes on...
Sleep – Longer days & later nights? Sleep plays a significant role in supporting our minds & bodies long-term. Rest well.
Nutritional Energy: Protein, Healthy Fats – Our bodies require adequate nutrition. Protein supports our bodies in many ways. The molecules in our immune system, endocrine system and the neurotransmitters in our brain are derived from protein. Healthy fats have been shown to support cognition and brain function overall. Proteins and healthy fats may provide us with an increased sense of energy and satiety.
Exercise – ...A proven foundation for health. If it’s too hot outside, enjoy a nice indoor work out, but keep moving!
