Is your skin preventing you from being happy? It really shouldn’t. Skin is the largest external organ our body has and it deserves some TLC, lifestyle optimization, a reduction in inflammatory triggers and maybe some hormone optimization.

Naturopathic Skin Support may include:

1. HEALTHY GUT = HEALTHY SKIN. Skin conditions are best addressed from the inside-out - find the cause. Approximately 70% of our immune system is in our gut. So, it’s safe to say that our gut modulates inflammatory responses and this might be impacting our skin. Lifestyle modifications tailored to your body’s specific immunological response may support healthy skin.

2. HORMONE OPTIMIZATION. Some times of acne may be due to an excess production of Androgens a class of hormones associated with high testosterone production and high production of andogen metabolites. Elevated androgens have also been associated with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), which is a metabolic condition in which insulin resistance drives a few symptoms. a couple of these symptoms may include acne or increased facial hair growth.

3. HYDRATION. The best way to clear out toxins from our bodies is to stay hydrated with adequate water intake. Hydration however, may not be the sole factor regarding skin health. It may be a contributing factor

4. MOISTURIZE and CLEANSE. Just as water helps maintain the integrity of our skin, so does a good quality moisturizer and cleanser. Talk to your skin health professional (e.g. dermatologist) to find out what is suitable for your skin!

5. PROTECT. Wear sunscreen, even on gloomy days. The sun is wonderful, but it does promote aging if our skin is left unprotected. Avoid those fine lines, wrinkles and age spots by starting to use clean products early on. More importantly, risk of skin cancer increases without sunscreen use.

You do not need to be on a complex skin regime. See your Naturopathic Doctor for individualized care and build a team of professionals that are dedicated to their apporach in supportig skin health. Naturopathic medicine focuses more on internal reasons for skin health issues - e.g. gut health, hormone health optimization, food/environmental triggers, etc.
